Mountain & Moorland Day Trekking Kit
This list is not meant to be exhaustive. With anything we do, appropiate planning is essential. You may need extra kit or you may be able reduce the amount. If you need something and hvent got it then it could be an issue.
- A plan of your intended route of exploration - its advised that you let a third party know and you know the nearest emergency services plus how to contact them.
- Rucksack - 35L approx.
- Waterproofs - jacket & trousers (double up as wind proofs).
- Suitable sturdy footwear - good walking boots for the terrain you are exploring.
- Warm Layers - fleece jumper, hat, gloves, scarf etc.
- Map & Compass - know how to use them.
- Food & Water - also recommend a flask.
- Emergency Kit - first aid kit + blister plasters, survival bag / blizzard bag, emergency shelter, whistle. (Also, extra food & compass.)
- Headtorch - spare batteries.
- Dry Bags - best is several small and medium ones so you can put similar items together but one big one the size for the ruck sack will do.
- Walking Poles - you dont need bad knees to get the most out of these. Really helpful bit of kit.
- Mobile phone - have a good mapping app.
- Powerbank.
- Sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Midge net/spray.
- Repair kit - Strong repair tape, zip ties, spare laces.
- Sanitation kit - think about having a pee or a pooh so what are you going to need.
