IMPORTANT

This is the absolute bare minimum and you should add whatever else you may well need.

During the planning stage consider the following and add or improve as required:

What is the environment? - Mountain/Moorland/Coastal/etc

Do you have a right of access or is permission required?  If not then choose somewhere where you have.

What is the expected weather forecast for the full duration?

What is the location of the proposed camp? - valley, hill/mountain top, ridge, etc.  Your going to want a flat area for your tents that is protected from weather and its effects -  flood, high winds, etc

Where is the nearest water? - is it safe to drink? Do you need to purify it?

What are you doing about sanitation? - your going to need to pee and pooh so find out the local rules and expectations?

Follow the leave no trace principles.

Arrive late in the day and leave first thing in the morning.

Keep away from and out of sight of roads, buildings, livestock.

Keep numbers of tents small.

Choose tents that have a natural colour.

Tell someone you plans.

If asked to leave or pay a small fee by the landowner then oblige politely.
